Why Christmas holidays are a bad idea

Every year we anticipate the christmas holiday and consequential family reunion with excitement, but more recently, with much trepidation. The annual time off is allocated, and the christmas break becomes a time to look forward to, with lounging days off mingling amongst the tinsel and fairy lights adorned everywhere.

The reality is closer to a stark coldness and discomfort which we face when we actually travel to our family christmas destination. As if being away from our home comforts, and healthy gym regimen was not enough, we also have to please each family member, who are always oblivious to the painstaking efforts you have undergone just to arrive. Each invitation must be dutifully accepted, annoying gifts unwrapped, and we have remain on form, otherwise eyebrows will be raised about how we live our lives, in general. They can not even think that it is their inconsiderate behavior which is causing the most discontent during our supposed christmas holiday. A little kindness goes a long way when you are out of bounds and away from home; if only more family could realise this.

To top it all, airports are packed and tickets extortionate; we come back home relieved to be within our own space and schedules and wonder, why went in the first place. Family is a huge reason to celebrate, but it should not be the cause of too much discontent, especially in the pursuit of a merry christmas.
